Making a Will
Why is making a will important?
- By not making a will you cannot decide how your assets are shared out – as the law of the land [the Intestacy Rules] says who gets what.
- By not making a will if you aren't married or in a civil partnership (whether or not it's a same sex relationship) you cannot guarantee your partner will inherit.
By not making a will you cannot make sure your partner is provided for. By not making a will if you are going through divorce proceedings or dissolving a civil partnership and do not complete that process before you die then your ex-partner may well inherit from you when you least want them too. - By not making a will you lose the opportunity of minimising the amount of Inheritance Tax you pay.
